Concrete Structures & Floors (CSF) has been contracted by Castell Construction to undertake groundworks and concrete frame works at Factory Road, Newport. The project is a six-storey apartment building for a local housing association, with CSF responsible for constructing the first three floors of the concrete frame alongside a comprehensive civil engineering and drainage package.

An integrated groundworks and structures package

The appointment brings together the below-ground infrastructure, the opening stages of the building’s concrete frame and the external works needed to serve the development. CSF’s contract covers all aspects of groundworks, together with civil engineering works and construction of the first three concrete-frame floors.

These elements form a connected package. Coordinating the groundworks, structural works and surrounding infrastructure is central to establishing the development’s next stages, with the work planned around Castell Construction’s wider building programme and the project specification.

Storm and foul drainage

CSF’s scope includes all aspects of storm and foul drainage. This encompasses the drainage infrastructure serving the development as part of the overall groundworks and civil engineering contract.

The package also includes a SuDS-approved attenuation tank and porous car parking bays. These specified features place surface-water management alongside the building and external works, making drainage an integral part of the project rather than a separate finishing consideration.

Highways, footways and parking

Highway and footway construction are also included in CSF’s appointment. These works will contribute to the access and pedestrian infrastructure around the apartment building, alongside the porous car parking bays.

Delivering external works within the same contract provides a clear connection between the drainage arrangements and the surrounding paved areas. The final construction will follow the project’s specified details and the requirements of the wider development.

Concrete frame construction

The overall apartment building will rise to six storeys. CSF’s concrete frame responsibility is specifically the first three floors, supporting the opening stages of the structure’s development.

This defined scope brings CSF’s concrete construction capability together with its groundworks and civil engineering services. The combined appointment reflects the range of disciplines required to move a residential scheme from ground-level infrastructure into its structural phase.
